Huntington Beach State Park
Huntington Beach State Park is a small coastal preserve and state park near Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, that offers camping, fishing, hiking trails, and access to three miles of unspoiled beach. Explore the natural coastal environment of this area with its freshwater lagoon, salt marsh, and maritime forest. The park is also home to loggerhead turtles.
Things to do here include:
Visit the Education Center – With its saltwater touch tank, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the variety of threatened and endangered species that inhabit the park, pet a stingray or horseshoe crab, or see a baby alligator or diamondback terrapin up close.
Kayaking and Canoeing - South Carolina has more coastal marshland and navigable creeks than any other state on the Atlantic Coast of the United States. Here you will enjoy the close-up view of nature and history that can often be seen only by paddling the slow moving coastal waterways . Little to no experience is necessary to enjoy the beautiful ecosystem surrounding this park. Experience incredible views of grass marshes, salt marsh creeks, and secluded pools. Feeling a bit more adventurous? Then paddle around Drunken Jack Island, the legendary treasure site of Blackbeard the Pirate.
Fishing - Whether fishing from the park’s jetty, wading into the surf, or casting from the beach, you can enjoy great saltwater fishing here. Catch of the day might include spotted seatrout, red drum, black drum, flounders, whiting, and crevalle jack.
Bird Watching - As one of the finest bird watching sites on the East Coast for both fresh and saltwater marshes, you can find ducks, gannets, loons, scoters, and razorbills. The park has many walking trails, boardwalks, and observation decks to make the most of your viewing experience.
Biking – There are miles of level roads for biking. The Bicycle Trail, 26 miles from Huntington Beach to Litchfield Beach, is an enjoyable family activity.
Hiking - A day hike through Huntington’s protected natural habitat is one you won't soon forget. Here you can experience the wildlife and scenery of the freshwater and saltwater marshes, pristine sandy beaches, maritime forests, and the Atlantic Shoreline.
